History

Beginning as a farming community, a mix of Irish, French, German and English families had settled in Township 45 by the 1870s. Named for the French family that had settled the area and for Peter Albert Ladue, a fighter in the Revolutionary War, the city grew up around the area where he lived and was successful in business. In 1936, three cities merged to become the present day Ladue.
